Journey of a Caregiver

Senior Moments?

Each caregiver’s journey is unique, depending on the type of dementia, health issues and medications your loved ones are taking. But there are also many similarities – that we’re all getting older and have senior moments that we have a tendency to attribute to any unexplainable moments. There may be sleep pattern changes where they don’t sleep as long at night but get up and wander around without purpose. For us there was a time when he would have trouble putting his medication in the pillbox. When I saw this happening I suggested that we work on it together at the dining table. Over time he got more confused and asked if I could help. My goal was for him to still feel a sense of independence, so that he felt safe and trusted me in our new norm of day-to-day living. It’s a fine line we have to walk but it helps them during this transition.
